Because this is exactly what I need to do instead of packing...

I stayed up quite late putting this together. I'm not sure why but all of a sudden, I really wanted to do this. So I did and without further ado, I present my memorial video of the Tobey Man.

So Long Charlie

I am officially cat-less. On Tuesday, Charlie and I drove the 400+ miles to Auntie Vamps in Salinas (with a quick stop over in LA to drop Robby off @ Nana and Papa's).

When I was first tossing around the idea about going abroad, my one big reason for not being able to go was because I had the Boys. Well, Auntie Vamp quickly shot down my reasoning by graciously offering to take both Tobey and Charlie for the duration of my stay in Austria.

Sadly, Tobey managed to get out about two weeks ago and, even sadder, has vanished, which here, usually means he didn't make it. I've gone 10 rounds with myself over him getting out but in the end, there's nothing I can do to change the past and Charlie still needed a good home while I was gone.

Auntie Vamp's it was. Only first, we had to get through the car ride.

In the beginning, Charlie was...shall we say...not too fond of the car:

He started with a sweet and short protest.

No thanks, I think I'll stay right here. These little peddle things make a cool backrest.

When that didn't work, he resorted to screaming.

Look at the road not at the camera, crazy woman!

Then, after two hours of pretty much non-stop howling, he calmed down (read: passed out):

After a ridiculously long amount of time, we arrived at Auntie Vamp's:

Finally, ground that doesn't move!

To make sure Charlie was adjusted to his new surroundings, I stayed a few days and listened as my little King schooled Auntie Vamp in exactly how he likes things done, including food never served above room temperature, belly rubs at any given moment, and unimpeded access to the chest when he wants a snuggle.

After we snorted our "yah, rights" to that, I told her just to make sure he had food and water and a clean box and the boy was good to go.

Luckily, Charlie has had a soft spot Auntie Vamp from day 1 (literally) and he was willing to negotiate the exact terms and conditions. Because he loves her, see?

Mr. Charlie man and his Auntie Vamp on adoption day (she clearly won his affections)

Now, I am back in San Diego and missing my little man very much. Auntie Vamp has already texted to say that he is getting along very well in his new surroundings and even has a new BFF - who just happens to be Auntie Vamp's BF. But even though he's being spoiled out of his mind right at this very moment with things I've probably denied him for the past year, you can see in his eyes how much he wants me back soon, right?

Crazy woman, you won't get me back in that car alive...

When Heartbreak Has A Name

Tobey 2005-2009

Charlie and I were blessed to have you for the last year (and FYI: this is why I didn't want you to get outside...you don't come back). See you in Heaven, baby boy!

Tobey's Got a Cruh-ush!

Friday, January 23, 2009

Scammers.

Sure. They may look all cute and sweet and innocent now...

But then you walk into the room and see this.

So far, Tobey is the one trying to get back on my good side.

You can practically see the wheels turning...

"Mmm, me likey the cake batter..."

"Different form, same great taste."

"She won't notice just one missing..."

"Aha! Gotcha!"

Workin' On Our Trust Issues

When I first adopted Tobey, the guy at the animal rescue told me there were a few "things" I needed to know before making my decision.

The most important was that Tobey was never going to be a 'lovey' cat. He didn't like to be held, he tolerated being pet, and well...he was stand offish.

Well, I am here to say yup, all that is true and he forgot to mention one other thing - he bites.

But I was sure (read: stubborn) that my winning personality would eventually win this little guy over. Which brings us to today. I was sitting on the couch absently watching T.V. and petting Tobey at the same time when he bit my hand. We'd been working on this, so I bopped him on the nose and sternly told him "no biting" and then, as he was giving me the stink eye (it was a good bop), I picked him up as I normally do to show him I still love him.

Well, imagine my surprise when he didn't immediately wriggle out of my arms but instead stretched out and, even more surprising, promptly fell. asleep. Asleep!

Which I let him enjoy until my back reminded me that the position I was in was not conducive to comfort so I moved a bit which caused Tobey to jump up and resume his previous stink eye.

He hasn't come anywhere near me since but he was so kind as to let me snap this picture.

You can tell just by looking at him how much he loves me.

This Face

You know you're loved when you wake up nose to nose with this ... either that or he's lulling me into a false sense of security and one day I'll wake up nose to...something else.

Happy Hump Day.

Ahem, for those of you who do not know, when I say 'Happy Hump Day' I am referring to Wednesday. Just to clarify.

Anyway, have I said how gorgeous Denver is? I mean, when you think about it, cities aren't all that pretty. There are tall buildings and cars and noise and all the stuff that comes from lots of people in not all that big of a space...but Denver (or at least my corner of it) is probably the cleanest city I've ever seen.

I've gotten over the worst of my cold (now just to get rid of this annoying cough) and this week I'm back to riding my bike. Wow, I missed it. The cool mornings, the wind in my face, the flex and pull of my legs as I race to school. I even missed riding home (which I have gotten so very good at). Now it only takes me about 1/2 an hour to get home - and I found out that I don't have to carry my bike up to my apartment every day - there is a bike rack at the back of our building. Yippee!

Yesterday, one of the gals from my Orientation week showed me where the Light Rail (picture an above ground subway and you've got it) station is on campus. I had absolutely no idea that you (I) could take my bike on it! But it turns out you can and it is great! It also turns out that we live only a few short blocks from each other, so that was neat too. I can definitely see myself taking the Light Rail when the weather turns too cold to ride (I'm not crazy enough to ride through ice or snow...even with my trusty helmet). And the stop is only about 3 blocks from my apartment so its nice and close.

Other than that, my classes are already talking about midterms! Wow, I feel like I just started and now we're halfway done. Some are as early as next week, while others are the following so I guess I'll be doing a lot of prep work this weekend. Right now, my most challenging class is Spanish - and it's the only class that has 'real' tests because we've got vocabulary and such to memorize.

I think my favorite class is the Computer Science course that I am taking in lieu of Math (best choice I ever made). This semester we're using Java to design games and it is A LOT of fun and quite challenging as well. I think my background in CSS/HTML helps in understanding formatting and such but the actual code is quite different. I'm really enjoying it.

I also have decided on my minor (which I'll probably be declaring sometime this week - by that, I mean informing the school of my decision). I've chosen marketing because it's something that will come in handy at any of the bigger corps that I apply to. I haven't really done much research into what it all entails but I know I'm up for it so I'll probably grab some of those classes next semester.

Other than that, everyone is happy and healthy. Tobey managed to swallow something that he's been trying to clear from his throat but it doesn't seem to irritate him so I'm not worried (and no, it's not a hairball). Charlie is still the more rambunctious of the two (which is odd because he's older and I originally though that he would settle Tobey) but when he gets in his mood he's the one that'll headbutt you and demand attention.

Oh! and, good news, I have lost at least 1 jean size. Woot, woot!

Alrightie, well that concludes the break I have today. I'm supposed to meet with the Digital Media Studies counselor in about 15 minutes so I'd better start heading over there.

Enjoy the pictures of the kits!

Under the Weather.

Sorry for the silence but I seem to have caught the cold that is going through my morning Philosophy class. I swear, at least 70% of the people there have symptoms ranging from the sniffles to an an outright hack-up-a-lung cough - including the chick behind me. Of course, I also went and rode my bike to school on Monday with wet hair - AND on Saturday I kind of got caught in the rain without a jacket while we were at the German Festival (I got to spend the weekend with Vamp and her bros and we totally took in the sights of CO Springs).

So I'm sure that all of those things combined have brought me to where I am now - wallowing in Claritin-D and toilet paper (next time, I'm buying the tissue - my nose will thank me).

That said, I thought I'd post some pictures from our adventures this weekend.

And last but not least, I thought I'd introduce you to the babies.

This is Charlie.

And this is Tobey.
